A combination of exercise and healthy eating offers the most effective protection against inflammation including after menopause

Researchers at the University of Jyväskylä’s Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences found that women with both disturbed eating habits and low physical activity levels tend to have more central body fat and a higher risk of metabolic low grade inflammation. Together these conditions increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases particularly after the menopause.

The study published in the journal Scientific Reports of women living in Finland between the ages of 51 and 59 investigated the connection between health behaviours and low grade inflammation. Health behaviours in the study included sleeping, eating, physical activity levels and other related disorders.

The researchers found the combination of exercise and healthy eating habits offered the most effective protection against inflammation including after menopause.
