Poor nutrition linked to an increased risk of injury for female athletes
A study from the University of South Australia found that good nutrition is the key to reducing the risk of injury, especially for women. In a systematic review of nearly 6,000 runners, researchers examined the link between diet and exercise related injuries among adult distance runners.
The study found that lower energy and fat intakes were strongly associated with a higher risk of injury in female runners. The study also found that a low fibre diet increased the likelihood of bone stress injuries in both female and male runners.
