Screen use in bed can increase insomnia

A study of more than 45,000 Norwegian university students found that using screens in bed is strongly associated with insomnia symptoms and less sleep duration. The researchers discovered that using a screen in bed can increase the risk of insomnia by up to 59%.

The study published in Frontiers in Psychiatry involved Norwegian students in full time higher education aged 18-28 years old. The researchers found no significant differences between social media and other screen activities, suggesting that screen use itself is the key factor in sleep disruption.
