Foraged Blackberries
August, September and October are the best months for picking blackberries, a late summer/early autumn walk is a perfect time to unplug from tech and feel close to nature, picking blackberries along the way can evoke wonderful childhood memories of a more simple time.
Rich in anthocyanins and polyphenols, blackberries along with other berries help to reduce oxidative stress, reduce inflammation, improve vascular health and lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
Pick blackberries from bushes away from roads as car exhaust fumes can pollute the fruit and be careful to choose blackberries growing higher up as anyone with a dog will tell you, bushes are a favourite place for dogs to lift a leg. Pick enough for a day or so maybe for a pie, jam or a perfect porridge topping and leave some for the wildlife that live nearby, providing a food source for the birds and insects.
