Stress Resilience

Stress Resilience

Our ability to respond and adapt to stress is known as stress resilience. Stress resilience is part of our natural ability to recover from stressful situations.

Stress is a natural response that could be caused by significant life events or even everyday pressures. The reaction to stress can be physiological or/and psychological. Prolonged stress can cause anxiety, depression and exhaustion, often leading to burnout. Chronic stress has been linked to a decline in the health of the immune system. We cannot always avoid stressful situations in our lives so it’s important to have coping mechanisms.

Regular exercise can help to decrease the effects of stress on the body, improve our mental health and mood including the ability to regulate emotional, cognitive and physical responses. Spending time in nature, blue and green spaces are particularly good for helping to reduce stress, anxiety and low mood. Mindfulness practice including breath-work is beneficial and easy to incorporate into our lives.
