Research from the University of East London, published in the European Journal of Ecopsychology, looked at the effects of regular open water swimming on the wellbeing of middle-aged British women. The women reported that this activity significantly supported their mental wellbeing and helped them to feel calmer, emotionally balanced and more in control during menopause, including managing symptoms of menopause. The women spoke about health, strength and resilience during times of stress, identifying the swimming community as a valuable connection that helped build confidence.
