Waves and breathing

Waves and breathing

The sea is naturally healing, positively impacting mood by reducing stress and promoting relaxation. The natural soothing sounds of the waves can help with breathing and meditation to calm the nervous system and reduce mental load by helping to silence the monkey chattering mind, thoughts inside our minds that can be restless, noisy, distracting, scattered and even intrusive.

Listening to and counting waves whilst on the shoreline, breathing deeply and rhythmically can help to promote our parasympathetic nervous system, part of our autonomic nervous system, the ‘rest and digest’ state. The parasympathetic nervous system calms the body down, lowering our heart rate, improves breathing and aids digestion.
