Exercising in hot weather
When exercising in hot weather there are some things to consider:
Exercising in high temperatures can put an extra strain on the body. Try to workout as early as possible in the morning on days when the temperature is high especially when high humidity is forecast. This is important because the body struggles as sweat doesn’t evaporate in the same way when the humidity is high, preventing sweat from evaporating efficiently. Sweating is the body’s way to lower your temperature as it evaporates from the skin.
Hydration is essential, always carry water with you and for higher intensity training consider electrolytes to help maintain the balance of fluids in the body.
Wear natural fabrics like linen and cotton that are more breathable and a wide brimmed cap will help to protect and keep you cool.
Choose a reef friendly sunscreen that protects you without harming marine ecosystems.
Remember it’s ok to skip a workout on a day when it feels too hot!
NOTE: Stop exercising if you experience any of the following: feeling faint or lightheaded, weakness, fatigue, nausea, sickness or blurred vision. Seek medical attention when needed.
