Injury Prevention
Injury prevention is an important component of wellbeing. From our workouts to our recovery it’s essential to help prevent common injuries. Incorporating exercises that support injury prevention can easily be integrated into our workouts. Movements that enhance our balance, proprioception and stability whilst addressing muscular imbalances and muscular fitness can encourage a more holistic approach to health.
Strong muscles protect joints by serving as shock absorbers and providing joint stability, especially as we age. Sarcopenia is the gradual loss of muscle associated with the ageing process. This process affects us from the age of 30, the average person can lose 3-5% of muscle mass per decade over 30 and this loss accelerates to over 15% per decade over the age of 60.
The loss of muscle mass not only makes our bodies look older but can affect how we age from everyday tasks like opening a jar to becoming frail which have physical and psychological consequences that can result in the loss of resilience. These conditions can also make injuries more likely and recovery much harder.
