Short-chain fatty acids protect against cardiovascular disease and hypertension by up 20%
A Monash University study of almost 400,000 people published in the journal Cardiovascular Research, found that the signalling of short-chain fatty acids in the gut protected against cardiovascular disease and hypertension by up to 20%.
Short-chain fatty acids are a by product of the fermentation process that occurs when dietary fibre is broken down in the gut. Eating more fibre produces short-chain fatty acids that help strengthen the immune system, reduce inflammation and create a healthy diverse microbiome which helps to prevent chronic disease.
