Sugar and Osteoarthritis

Sugar and Osteoarthritis

Eating too many processed sugars can lead to the release of cytokines, pro-inflammatory proteins. Excess cytokines in the body can cause chronic inflammation often resulting in joint pain, stiffness and even swelling for many of those living with osteoarthritis.

Healthy eating and exercise are important for those living with osteoarthritis. Exercises that include movement and resistance training designed to build, strengthen and maintain muscles will also strengthen the joints.

NOTE: seek guidance from a physician before beginning a new exercise program and chose a qualified exercise professional for help and advice.
