1 in 3 cases of dementia preventable
According to a new report by the first Lancet Commission on Dementia Prevention and Care, presented at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference 2017 and published in the Lancet, 1 in 3 cases of dementia are preventable.
The commission brought together 24 international experts to review existing research and provide evidence based recommendations for treating and preventing dementia. The report also highlighted the beneficial effects of non pharmacological interventions such as physical activity and socialising.
The report identified 9 risk factors in early, mid and later life that can increase the likelihood of developing dementia.
